Taiwan offers Golden visa for Asian investors

R.O.C. (Taiwan)  is the most densely populated country with 23 million population, its  $1.25 trillion economy is the 22nd biggest in the world offering highly skilled and educated workforce.

 

In 2018, Taiwan had $625 GDP output, being the powerhouse for electronics, expos and home to electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn, which makes products for Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft. The currency of Taiwan is the New Taiwan dollar. The Government encourage significant Foreign direct investment (FDI) in various sectors in Taiwan

 

Taiwan offers four types of resident golden visas for investment issued to foreigners who are keen to invest in Asian economies.

 

  • Entrepreneur visaNT 2 million ($65,000)
  • Resident visa for investmentUSD 200,000
  • NT$15 million ($500,000) in a business or commercial enterprises in Taiwan (permanent status)
  • NT$30 million ($1 million) in government bonds issued by Taiwan (permanent status)

 

Foreign nationals who have invested or have been hired and qualify for permanent residency may apply for the Plum Blossom Card to obtain permanent residency to be exempted from the 183-day residency per year restriction.

 

Family and children also qualify for resident visas.

In 2018, Taiwan’s Cabinet unveiled a proposal for a New Economic Migrant Act relaxation of the rules on a visa scheme targeted at rich foreign investors, which allows investments in designated funds, or other financial products outside government bonds.

 

According to existing rules for immigrant investors, applicants are required to invest either over NT$30 million (US$1 million) in Taiwanese government bonds or over NT$15 million (US$0.5 million) in a for-profit enterprise in Taiwan, which can create five or more job opportunities for Taiwanese citizens.

 

According to Taiwan Immigration office Investor immigrants with one of the following qualifications, qualify for alien permanent resident card

 

  • Having invested over NT$15 million in a for-profit enterprise in Taiwan, and created five or more job opportunities for ROC nationals for 3 years.
  • Having invested over NT$30 million in Taiwanese government bonds for over 3 years.

 

Under the new plan immigrant investors are allowed to invest in funds, company bonds, and other financial products designated by the government as critical to the country’s development.

 

Those investors meeting the requirements will be eligible to apply for permanent residency as immigrant investors after a period of three years, and will also be eligible to apply for naturalization to become a Taiwanese citizen.

 

Taiwan permits dual citizenship but naturalized citizens must renounce previous citizenship. Taiwanese citizenship after five years by the process of naturalizing
