The Spanish golden visa scheme has attracted €2.33 billion euros investment in Spain since the inception in 2013. Spain granted 3,140 residence permits to foreign citizens for buying property for more than 500,000 euros. Half of the golden visas issued is in Catalonia for buying properties, according to ara.cat.
Madrid, Alicante, Malaga are other favorite property investment destinations in Spain. Russian investment in Spain through golden visas hit 700 million euros with 834 residence permits issued for Russia with chinese remaining top investors in spain as well.

The Spanish Golden visa programme came into existence on 27 Sep 2013, under the Law 14/2013 (Ley 14/2013), granting residence permits to migrant investors who make a significant investment in Spain. The Law 14/2013, has been modified by Law 25/2015 to support entrepreneurs and their internationalisation
Foreign investors must meet the following investment requirements for golden visa.
- Public debt (€2 million)
- Shares (€ 1 million)
- Investment funds or venture capital funds set up in Spain (€1 million)
- Bank deposits (€500,000)
- Real estate (€500,000)
The property investment route is the most popular investment option for foreign property buyers. The golden visa scheme qualifies investors to receive a 1 one year visa or two year residence permit which can be extended for another five years including family.
