Uganda has offered dual citizenship to 485 Ugandan diaspora population living in foreign countries and dual citizenship revenues has reached over $190,000 in one week.
Dual citizenship was provided for in the Ugandan Constitution after the enactment of the Uganda Citizenship and Immigration Control (Amendments) Act 2009. According to Ugandan law, any Ugandan can apply for dual citizenship, as long as one fulfills the requirements for dual nationality. Previously, the Diaspora population of Ugandans living abroad had to go through a rigorous process that required them to return home. But this has since been made easier with the extension of the service to consulates and embassies
As many 485 Ugandans living in The Netherlands, UK and USA applied and were right away granted dual citizenship. According to ugandan law, each application costs $400 bring about sh 1.5m ($193,000) revenues to Uganda.

All Ugandans who lost their Ugandan citizenship by way of obtaining citizenship of another country can now reacquire their former Ugandan citizenship. Ugandans who desire to acquire citizenship of another country can also do so without losing their Ugandan citizenship.
A citizen of Uganda of eighteen years and above who voluntarily acquires citizenship of another country may retain the citizenship of Uganda subject to the Constitution (of Uganda), the Citizenship and Immigration Act, and any law enacted by Parliament.
A person who is not a citizen of Uganda may, on acquiring the citizenship of Uganda,subject to the Constitution, the Citizenship and Immigration Act and any other law enacted by Parliament, retain the citizenship of another country.
