Hungary sold residency bonds to 6,538 foreigners

Hungary sold residency bonds 6,538 foreign beneficiaries through the residency bond program during the periods 2013 to 2017 (march). The program was announced closed as of March 31, 2017. The Hungarian Bond Program requires EUR 300,000 investment in Euro Bonds, which is fully refundable after 5 years and investors qualify for permanent residence permit in Hungary in 6 months.

According to information obtained by daily newspaper Magyar Nemzet, 6,538 foreign citizens received permanent residence permits in Hungary and 47 residence permits, which means they did not apply for long-term residence. A further 13,300 immigrants received permanent residence on the grounds of family reunification. In total, the official figure is 19,885 foreigners participating via the residency bond program.

  • Chinese
  • Iraq,
  • Afghanistan and
  • Iran

It is not entirely clear if the Bond program will restart in the future after elections in Hungary.
