44% of Malta IIP applications came from Europe

The Malta IIP statistics reveal that about 44% of Individual investor programme applications originated from Europe.

Malta Individual Investor Program allows both EU and non-EU citizens apply under the scheme. EU/EEA citizens cannot apply for Golden visa schemes in Europe, as it is exclusively for third country nationals seeking residency in Europe.

Currently, the investment requirements for Malta IIP scheme are the following:

  • At least a 12-month residency status in Malta;
  • The purchase (minimum €350,000) or lease (minimum €16,000 per annum) of immovable property by way of residency;
  •  A contribution of €650,000 per main applicant PLUS a contribution per capita in respect of the spouse (€25,000) or other dependents (€25,000 – son/daughters under 18, €50,000 – unmarried sons/daughters between 18 and 26 and parents or parents-in-law above 55) accompanying the main applicant;
  • The purchase of Malta Government Bonds or locally listed securities and equities amounting to not less than €150,000;
  • Indefinite health insurance of the main applicant and all dependents.

Maltese passport is ranked in Henley passport index, as one of the powerful passports in the world with access to US and Canada (ESTA required)

According to Malta IIP statistics, majority of applications 44.6% in 2017, came from Europe, followed by 21.5% from Asia and 13.5% from Middle East.

Statistical information of main applicants, 94% (354 applicants) had one previous citizenship,  21 main applicants had two previous citizenships whereas only 2 had three. Malta allows dual citizenship.

 

Malta also published list of names in official gazette, who obtained Maltese citizenship under the IIP scheme. The Malta Individual investor programme has a limitation of 1800 applications.
