Grenada will be issuing e-passports starting from July 2018, replacing the existing machine readable passports. The e-passport will contain 36 pages and will cost $175.
An e-Passport or Biometric passport contains an electronic chip. The chip holds the same information that is printed on the passport’s data page: the holder’s name, date of birth, and other biographic information. An e-Passport also contains a biometric identifier.
The new e-Passport bearers can swipe the e-passport, at the Kiosk installed at the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MNIA), skip queues, without going through immigration officers and proceed to customs, speeding up entry/exit.
The Immigration Chief disclosed that persons with Machine Readable Passports with expiration date due in the coming years can continue to use them even while the e-Passport is in effect.
