Grenada is the only country in the world, at present, that has both a citizenship by investment program and treaty with the U.S. that allows citizens of Grenada to apply for E-2 treaty investor visas to the U.S.
Grenada E-2 treaty with United States is in force from March 3, 1989. Grenada does not have E-1 trader treaty with the US.
A quick check on State department statistics on E2 visas reveal that only one E-2 visa has been approved for the year 2017 under E category. During Q1 2018 Grenada received 77 applications for its CBI program.
The E-2 nonimmigrant classification allows a national of a treaty country (a country with which the United States maintains a treaty of commerce and navigation) to be admitted to the United States when investing a substantial amount of capital in a U.S. business. Certain employees of such a person or of a qualifying organization may also be eligible for this classification.
Economic citizens of Grenada cannot apply for E-2 visa, without becoming a permanent resident of Grenada (living). This can be done by renting a home address or buying a property in the country.
An E-2/1 visa is one of the cheaper alternative for EB-5 with no investment ceiling and investors qualify for five year non-immigrant visa. Unlike EB-5, applications for E-2 can be launched at US consulate and require no approval from USCIS. Another benefit include E-2 visa holder may be able to avoid US taxation on worldwide income
