The UK Home Office has announced new stricter reforms for acquisition of British citizenship. These changes include tougher english language requirements and citizenship test that reflects the daily life and culture in the UK.
The following are the most important changes announced as a part of citizenship reforms:
- The level of language proficiency expected for adults seeking to naturalise as British citizens will be raised.
- Powers to deprive individuals of their British citizenship will be applied to individuals convicted of the most serious criminal offences, where it is in the public interest.
- Life in the UK test, for individual is required to take as part of their application for British citizenship or settlement in the UK.
The Government announced, it will bring forward a consultation on the citizenship test.
From 8 Oct 2018, the following are the application fees for citizenship applications
- Indefinite leave to remain £2,389
- Naturalisation £1,330
- Renunciation £372
- Life in the UK test £50
