Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Programme is promoted by the Government of Malaysia offering long term residency to foreigners to stay in Malaysia on a multiple-entry social visit pass. The program only requires liquid wealth of RM500,000 ($120,000) and offshore income of RM10,000 ($2400) per month with clean background record.
MM2H scheme was opened in 2002 to attract foreigners to come and stay in Malaysia, especially those who have already retired or some for business purposes. The Social Visit Pass issued under the scheme is initially for a period of ten (10) years, and is renewable.
According to Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Aziz , more than one million foreigners have applied for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme since 2002 but only 33,300 applications have been successful. This means only 33 applications out of 1000 applications were approved with a success rate of 0.0033%. This also shows Malaysia MM2H is receiving on an average of 66,000 applications per year. As of 2018, this application volume has well exceeded to over 1 million .
MM2H applicants represent residents from 126 nations and their moving to Malaysia under the programme has contributed a total amount of RM 12.8 billion to the economy. The visa fees alone – including multiple entry, social pass and journey performance visa – those under the programme had paid a total of RM52 million. All in all The programme collected RM 4.9 billion from fixed deposits as well as RM148 million from the purchase of automobiles and properties.
According to The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac), for 2018 about 40,000 MM2H applications have been approved from more than 130 countries since 2002 to end-June 2018 with China maintaining its position as the top participating country with 11,820 approved applications.
The ministry further said it is on track to achieve its target collection of RM7.5 million from the programme this year including visa fees as the programme has already garnered about RM6.5 million in collections as at end-June 2018 with chinese are the largest approved applicants in the program followed by Japanese and Bangladesh.

Eligibility
Applicants are expected to be financially capable of supporting themselves on this programme in Malaysia.

- Applicants aged below 50 years are required to show proof of liquid assets worth a minimum of RM500,000 and offshore income of RM10,000 per month.
- Applicants aged 50 and above may comply with the financial proof of RM350,000 in liquid assets and offshore income of RM10,000 per month. For government pensioners, they can show proof of receiving pension of at least RM 10,000 per month.
New Amendments
According to New 2018 amendments in the scheme, MM2H Centre has discontinued the reduction of Fixed Deposit placement based on property purchase worth RM1 million and above in Malaysia. Also discontinued is the MM2H approval by government pension for MM2H applicants aged 50 years and above. This means all MM2H new participants must place Fixed Deposits to join this programme. This does not apply to existing MM2H participants who were approved under government pension.

MM2H is not frozen
On Oct 4, 2018, according to Malaysian publication, The Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture, Datuk Mohamed Dingda, refutes the rumors that the Malaysian Second Home Project (MM2H) has been frozen; the Minister said that foreigners can apply as

On the other hand, the Director of Immigration, Datuk Seri Mouss Dafa, also told the Sin Chew Daily that the second home plan was not frozen and that foreigners could still apply, but the Immigration Bureau would implement a more rigorous review process, including checking the application.
