Many experts have called it &#8220;unconstitutional&#8221; as the law does not have any grandfathering or transitional protection to golden visa holders in the country who were promised citizenship in just 5 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The PS, Chega, IL, and other parties voted in favor totaled 157 up against, with 64 final votes on the assembly.  The Bill has to sill be approved by President of the Republic and gazetted to be officially enforced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\">The new Legal Regime of Portuguese Nationality \u2014 an essential reform for the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">&#8211; Government<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Portugal GV program collected close to 9 billion euros since its launched and record number of residence permits issued under the scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Below are the most important alterations made to Nationality Law  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parlamento.pt\/ActividadeParlamentar\/Paginas\/DetalheIniciativa.aspx?BID=315073\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Lei n.\u00ba 20\/XVII\/1.\u00aa (CH)<\/a> passed by parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">The Naturalization time increased to 10 years (from current 5 years) and 7 years for CPLP country nationals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the special naturalization route created in 2015 for descendants of Portuguese Sephardic Jews is eliminated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Portuguese citizenship will be revoked for serious crimes, incarcerated 4 or more years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Stricter conditions to citizenship test, knowledge of culture and integration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The Residence clock starts ticking only when authorities grant a residence permit, not time to submit their applications for residency. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Applications in process where citizenship is pending, the old rules will apply, but residents who haven&#8217;t yet initiated citizenship will have to conform to the new seven- or ten-year rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Among the most important change made is provisions for loss of nationality would be issued by a judge in the case of highly serious crimes punishable by four years or more in prison, such as crimes against the state or violent crimes such as homicide or rape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Immigration Law for Foreigners (should not be confused with Nationality Law) also approved this month with measures on curbing immigration and family members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Final approval of Nationality Law is in the hands of President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Portugal\u2019s Nationality Law reforms approved by parliament today has left Golden Visa Investors in shock and has sparked uncertainty and debate.
